Eco campaign

The eco campaign collects hazardous waste

Each year, Loimi-Hämeen Jätehuolto Oy holds an eco campaign (Ekotempaus), during which LHJ collection vehicles visit campaign stops to collect small batches of household hazardous waste free of charge. As the name implies, hazardous waste refers to discarded substances or items that could pose a special hazard to people’s health or the environment if disposed in the wrong place.

Considerations to keep in mind when dealing with hazardous waste

  • Label the waste: Identify the waste type.
  • Pack the waste in the original packaging if possible.
  • Provide the correct information and be aware of what you are delivering.
  • Do not mix different types of waste.
  • Waste stations accept hazardous waste throughout the year.
  • Do not bring hazardous waste to campaign stops in advance.
  • Calmly wait for your turn at the collection point and do not leave the waste on the ground.

Bring the following waste types in for recycling:

  • batteries, ranging from large tractor batteries to small button cell batteries
  • fluorescent tubes (intact)
  • compact fluorescent lamps (intact)
  • aerosol containers, i.e. pressurised containers (spray paint, hairspray, urethane foam)
  • paint, glue and lacquer
  • solvents (gasoline, turpentine)
  • insecticides and plant protection products
  • waste oil in canisters
  • oily waste (oil filters, cotton pulp)
  • acids and bases
  • other chemicals and products marked with an official warning label
