Waste management FAQ
Frequently asked questions about visiting waste stations
Each waste station has different opening hours. See the current opening hours on the following page: https://lhj.fi/jatteen-vastaanotto/jateasemat/
The price of the load is determined according to the waste type and the amount of waste you bring. You should sort and pack the loads according to the waste type at home to facilitate pricing and sorting at the waste station. For more information, see the question ‘How do I package my waste correctly?’ The pricing of small loads (max. four cubic metres) is based on the volume. Smaller waste stations do not accept loads larger than four cubic metres. You can bring larger loads to waste centres and, if necessary, drive through the weighing station, in which case the price is determined based on the weight. See our price list here: https://lhj.fi/hinnat/
You can bring glass packaging, clean window glass without frames, waste paper, metal, cardboard and paperboard to any waste station free of charge. Waste stations also accept plastic packaging, electrical equipment and reasonable amounts of hazardous waste from households free of charge.
Sort your waste by waste type at home to speed up the sorting and pricing process at the waste station. Certain waste types, such as ash, invasive species, dead pets, asbestos and discarded textile must always be packed in waste bags.
Asbestos must be packed in an air-tight manner, such as in a sturdy waste bag, by wrapping tarpaulin around it or by taping the asbestos carefully. Waste stations do not accept unpacked or inadequately packed asbestos.
The Kiertokaveri waste search service can help you sort your waste. You can find the Kiertokaveri page here (page only in Finnish). If you cannot find what you are looking for through Kiertokaveri, you can also contact our information service: asiakaspalvelu@lhj.fi. At waste stations, you can ask the waste station manager for advice.
The treatment and transport of waste and the maintenance of waste stations cause costs. Waste-to-energy power plants also collect a charge from the waste management facility for the waste they receive.
