Organisation of waste management
Loimi-Häme Waste Management is responsible for arranging the waste management of the public administration and service activities of its owner municipalities with regard to biowaste, glass, cardboard, plastic packaging and small metals. LHJ tenders the collection of these waste fractions on behalf of its owner municipalities periodically, and the emptying is carried out as part of the waste management of housing operations.
An exception to municipal waste management is mixed municipal waste (mixed waste) and residential sludge, where waste management arranged by the property owner is valid for the entire operating area. The municipality will put these fractions out to tender for waste management at the locations it needs. Paper collection is entirely the responsibility of producers, and it must be collected in direct contact with the paper producer community.
Collection must be arranged at municipal offices if the amount of biowaste, packaging waste or small metals generated exceeds the weekly kg limit specified in the Waste Decree. The collection can also be organised as a voluntary service, even if the weekly kilogrammes are not met.
Quantities of kg specified in the Regulation:
- Biowaste 10 kg (other than garden and park waste)
- Fibre packaging waste 5 kg
- Plastic packaging waste 5 kg
- Glass packaging waste 2 kg
- Metal packaging waste and small metal 2 kg
- Separate collection can be organised jointly between operators in the same property.
