Why is it important to recycle packaging waste?
Packaging waste, recoverable waste and recyclable waste; valuable materials are called by many different names. Plastic, cardboard, glass and metal packaging contains raw materials that can be recovered for reuse by sorting and recycling packaging correctly. Waste recovery reduces the need for virgin raw materials and energy, which is important for the retention of Earth’s carrying capacity and biodiversity. In addition to protecting the environment, sorting packaging materials also saves money, as the collection of mixed waste costs the most out of all household waste.
